With its recent debut at the New York Auto Show, the 2019 Corolla Hatchback is making a stir. Here’s what we know about this model so far and some of its standout features.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 Comes Standard
The newest iteration of Toyota Safety Sense technologies has already hit the streets, but the new Corolla Hatchback will be the first in North America equipped with this system. One of the biggest changes for this upgrade is pedestrian and bike detection. This feature is a huge step toward completely automated driving, though bike detection only currently works in daylight. The system can detect pedestrians, though, in bright or low light conditions. The vehicle also features these technologies:
- Pre-collision detection
- Automatic high beams
- Dynamic radar cruise control
- Lane departure alert with steering assist
- Road edge detection
In addition to these safety perks, automatic configurations of the vehicle come with lane tracing assist. This helps mitigate drifting out of a lane, but the system only activates while using cruise control. The newest version of Toyota Safety Sense is standard across all 2019 Corolla Hatchbacks.
More Storage Space
The newest Corolla Hatchback is bigger than past models, giving drivers more total interior space to work with. The vehicle is 172 inches long and 70.5 inches wide. It also has a lower ground clearance than prior models. In addition to a bigger frame and more cargo space, the new Corolla has roomier stowage areas, such as the center console box.
Manual and Automatic Powertrains
Toyota’s hatchback is available with either an intelligent rev-matching manual transmission or a Dynamic Shift continuously variable transmission. This is paired with an upgraded 2.0-liter Dynamic Force Engine. This powertrain delivers up to 168 horsepower.
The upgraded engine delivers more horsepower, and the hatchback has undergone several other design changes to make it fun to drive. The new frame is light and close to the ground, and it features optimized suspension geometry. The result is a more powerful and more responsive driving experience compared to prior models and similar vehicles.
The Corolla Hatchback comes loaded with infotainment technologies that you can access from the 8-inch touch screen. Entune 3.0 Audio is a standard feature, but the Toyota is particularly well-designed for Apple users. It has Apple CarPlay and a Qi-compatible wireless charging station. You can also sync up an Apple Watch and lock, unlock, and start the car remotely using your device.
Available Interior Upgrades
Drivers who want to enjoy all that interior space in style can do so with upgrades to the interior material. In addition to stylish piano-black accents, you can add leather-trimmed sports seats with contrast stitching and a leather-wrapped shift knob to relish in comfort and style.
This exciting vehicle only recently debuted at the New York Auto Show, but it won’t be long before this hatchback is available to the public. Drivers will gain access to these Corollas in Summer 2018. Look for this model to be available soon from Titus-Will Toyota.
